We also want to recognize Taylor Hooyman, a senior at Pewaukee High School, as our Superhero of the Week. Taylor has a 4.14 GPA and is top 10 in her class. After high school, she plans to attend the University of Wisconsin-Madison where she will study Elementary Special Education and Spanish.
Taylor said attending Pewaukee High School has opened the door for her to be involved in many activities ranging from extracurriculars to athletics. She served as class president for two years and is currently serving as the student body president. She is also a one-on-one peer buddy in Best Buddies this year. Taylor has been a volunteer for Special Olympics since she was in sixth grade, which inspired her to create an event called Warriors Wear Red.
Warriors Wear Red takes place at a Pewaukee boys varsity basketball game in February each year to raise awareness and funds for Special Olympics and Best Buddies. She fostered this idea her sophomore year when she enrolled in a course called IMPACT.
She recently started an internship as a paraprofessional at the Pewaukee area elementary schools. This opportunity has allowed her to gain real-world experience in the classroom.
Throughout high school, Taylor also been on varsity sports. During her freshman and sophomore year, she played tennis and finished her career at number one doubles on varsity. She played for three years on the varsity softball team and served as captain in her junior and senior years. She has also played club softball since the age of 10 and joined a club called the Queen of Diamonds early on in high school.
"I’m very honored to have received this recognition and could not have done it without the support of my family, friends, and the administration at Pewaukee High School," Taylor said. "Thank you, Mr. McGivern and the team at Current Electric!"
